Start Small

In my experience you will want to try the big trays and make the scarves and the big fabrics. But starting small allows you to learn all the basic skills and practise the basic techniques. It also keeps the costs low so that you will not get demotivated when a pattern doesn’t print properly. I recommend starting with the Jaquard Water Marbling Kit. This kit comes with everything you need to start water marbling. That will allow you to practise and learn the basics before you make a big $$$ investment!

Create

I started my journey water marbling with computer paper. Yes, computer paper. It was the best. Its cheap, fun, and you don’t feel guilty throwing it in the garbage if a design doesn’t work out.  We spent nearly 2 hours with family and friends creating.  We made alot of mistakes because we were in the learning stage, we focused on learning how to do all the steps. Once you have the steps down…then marble everything. If you think it will marble, try it…you never know what material you will love working with!

Share Your Work

Ok, I know that the first pieces that I worked on were NOT my favourite. But honestly I can look back and see my progress. Even if you don’t love a design in the moment sometimes you will think back and wish you had taken a picture. An even better option is to keep a journal along with photos so you can document your process and how it turned out.  I went hunting thru my computer for my first few attempts at water marbling….and this is where I started.
